Monsanto's cash cow is about to die. Europe's largest
producer of Nutrasweet, Holland Sweetener, has lost so much money
that they are considering stopping production. Merisant, our top
Nutrasweet producer lost 29% of their U.S. sales in 2004 and 2005
and has 100 million more debt than assets. This is the result of
hundreds of courageous doctors, publishers, and broadcasters who
have testified before congress, written books, and published a huge
pile of research demonstrating the incredibly deleterious effects
of Nutrasweet. That's great news, but 25 years too late. As the
evidence has mounted that Nutrasweet has contributed to the growing
incidence of brain tumors, organ cancers, and neurological disease,
while actually contributing to weight gain (exactly the opposite
of what it is claimed to do), Monsanto and the remainder of the
Nutrasweet manufacturers and suppliers continue to influence our
government by buying and lying. I believe it won't be long before
they will fall to the same fate the tobacco manufacturers have recently
experienced.
As the word has spread about Nutrasweet (aspartame),
another chemical sweetener has taken the top spot among tabletop
toxins. Splenda is a tri-chlorinated sugar, which releases chlorine
into the body, destroying the immune system and other vital functions.
All this, just to satisfy our addiction to anything sweet. You've
been warned over an over about artificial sweeteners, so beware.
If you have to sweeten, use stevia. |

In 2003 the number of CAT scans performed hit 57 million. There
isn't enough research yet to call these diagnostic devices safe.
These are super X-ray machines that do a phenomenal job of detecting
the smallest of abnormalities, so they have enormous potential
in the disease care delivery system; however, as usual, because
CAT scans are quickly reimbursable by insurance they are being
over utilized (perhaps a gross understatement).
Please consider that the average resident of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
received a mean dose of 20 millisieverts, a measurement of radiation
exposure. The post bomb cancer rate was horrendous, as all of
us who are old enough remember. Now consider this, the average
full body CAT scan patient receives between 12 and 25 millisieverts.
A mammogram measures about 0.84 millisieverts. A 10 millisievert
level is associated with an increased risk of cancer, AND THIS
RADIATION IS CUMULATIVE.
That means that the woman who receives a mammogram a year for
12 or 13 years has just increased her cancer risk as a result
of the early detection mammographic testing. The average person
receives about 3.6 millisieverts a year from natural sources,
and that has to be added to the X-ray dosage we receive from our
chiropractors and dentists, not to mention the worst offenders
of all, hospital emergency rooms. There is a huge debate going
on over the risks from one-time dosage versus cumulative exposure.
Because of the huge financial incentives involved this will be
a long drawn out debate.
The only one protecting your family is you and your knowledge.
Some companies are advertising cardiac (heart) scans on the radio
for any and all middle aged people. If you choose this path, be
sure to get the millisieverts you will be exposed too, and don't
be sold the bill of goods that CAT scans are safe. They can be
invaluable when used cautiously, but when has medicine ever proceeded
with caution when a new tool had enormous possibilities for financial
gain? If you can think of an instance, please let me know.

A recent report by the American Association for
Cancer Research claims that Vitamin D is a critical component is
reducing risk to pancreatic cancer, and a risk reduction of approximately
50% is nothing short of amazing. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth
leading cause of cancer death in this country and it is rapidly
fatal. Pancreatic does not respond to the standard medical approaches.
The figures were garnered from long term follow
up studies on the dietary habits of over 120,000 participants. This
is even more reason to take our Vitalmins Vitamin D & A. I take
3 each morning which gives me 3000 i.u. of vitamin D. I consider
anything from 2000 i.u. per day to 5000 i.u. per day to be in the
"absolutely safe" and at "optimum levels" zone
for the best of health.

The other day at the office a couple of things
occurred that happen quite frequently. Frequently enough, in fact,
that I thought it prudent to mention it in a newsletter. First,
a patient complimented me on how youthful I look for an old man
on social security. Soon after, a patient asked me to build them
a minimum supplemental vitamin program and then ranted about the
number of vitamins I suggested. Most people who take no vitamins
or try to get by on a Multi of some kind usually do not look young
for their age. When they asked how many vitamins I took a day they
were shocked, and I felt this might be the right time to share some
of my lifestyle with my patients and customers. But first, at least
half a dozen books are written each year, and have been for the
last two decades, describing how our food has become a major source
of our disease and disability. If you have doubts regarding the
necessity for moderate to heavy supplementation you need to read
some of these books.
I take between 25 and 30 supplements with my breakfast
each morning. I consider that necessary to provide OPTIMUM levels
of the essential micronutrients for good health and intelligent
risk reduction considering that I was an unhealthy child. That doesn't
mean that choosing food wisely and a good exercise regimen aren't
equally important, but something positive is working for myself
and many of my patients who supplement optimally. Remember, if you're
looking older than you'd like on the outside, you're looking older
than you'd like on the inside.
Regular exercise (not activity), a healthy organic
diet (foods that are indigenous to the region and in season), optimum
supplementation, and detoxification from our polluted environment
(I take a far infra-red sauna five times a week) will result in
reduced risk of chronic illness and an increased possibility of
lifelong good health.
My friend the plumber turns his water off whenever
he goes on a trip. I asked him if that wasn't overkill. He laughed
and said a good part of his income was made from people that thought
it was overkill, only to return to a basement full of water. He's
the expert, so now I turn the main water off when I go on a vacation.
I hope you get the analogy. |

Short Article #5
U.S Preventive Medicine is a new company advertised
in the Wall Street Journal. They are rounding up physicians throughout
the country to focus on preventing disease by prescribing drugs
before people get the diseases the drugs are to be taken for. This
will make the drug companies a LOT of money, which is what the spin
on prevention is all about, after all. Does anyone out there know
of a disease that's due to a drug deficiency??? Drugs, long term,
cause side effects. Sometimes it takes decades to discover how bad
those side effects are, but sooner or later we find out, often the
hard way. For example, the breast cancer rate is definitely down,
and medicine is raving about the numbers saying medical science
is finally making progress against this horrible disease.
I think this is another case where figures lie
and liars figure. Consider that just a few years ago we learned
that the 30 year experiment with hormones from pregnant mares urine,
Premarin, was doing more harm (ex., breast cancer) than good. Now
let's look at the projected figures, and we realize that the improvement
in breast cancer death is the result of physicians no longer so
cavalierly prescribing a very dangerous drug. To me it simply says
once again, the more drugs we take as a society the sicker we will
ultimately become. It's unavoidable. |
