I was surprised when I received
the new price increases from the pharmaceutical company that manufactures
for me under my private label. Some of our prices virtually doubled
and my first reaction wasn’t good. After a trip to the local
Health Food Store for a price comparison I was pleased to find that
the new pricing was still competitive with most of the cheaper and
poorer quality products available, and still considerably less expensive
than the better quality products posted retail prices.
I think the pharmaceutical company should have
been incrementally raising prices over the last ten years (many
products have held price for over fifteen years) as most other similar
businesses have. Unfortunately, with the increased cost of many
basic nutrients over the last two years, and the tremendous increase
in the cost of plastic bottles since the beginning of the Iraq war,
the disparity became all too clear and these major price changes
followed.
I know this is going to affect both patients and
customers who are on a fixed income, and I apologize. If you do
the research as I have, I know you will find that the products are
still priced competitively, and of course, still of the highest
quality.

Page A2 in the K.C. Star on March 22nd, the preceding
headline caught my eye. An advisory panel is about to recommend
that the FDA put stricter labels on Ritalin and its generic forms,
because they cause psychotic hallucination in some children at what
is considered normal dosage levels. Review of 90 studies and numerous
reports from physicians and parents have led to these frightening
conclusions. Cardiovascular issues such as heart attack, stroke,
and hypertension were also considered to be a problematical side
effect of this drug. I think it’s sad that it took decades
to accumulate this data, that should have been obvious long ago.
It’s another example of how the FDA is more concerned with
protecting Big Pharma than protecting our children.
Does it make sense to drug ADHD children when most
of the underlying cause of this condition in the majority of cases
is allergy/sensitivity? Ritalin and its generic form are selling
billions of dollars worth of these drugs annually, and the drugs
only address a symptom of a physiological mis-reaction (allergy/sensitivity)
to the child’s environment. NAET, combined with supportive
nutritional therapy is a much better choice.
ADHD is on the mild end of what are termed the
Autistic Spectrum Disorders, with frank Autism on the more serious
end of that spectrum. A major study is proceeding from the NAET
research foundation because of the results of a preliminary study.
This preliminary study was started in October of 2004 and ended
in November of 2005. The treatment group was comprised of 30 non-verbalizing,
non communicative autistic children, and another 30 in a control
group. Children in the treatment group received 50 NAET treatments
in 12 months and the treatment they were receiving before NAET began.
Children in the control group continued receiving the treatments
they were receiving prior to the start of the study. At the end
of the 12 months, all 30 in the NAET group had made significant
improvement in verbal and non verbal communication skills. Twenty
three had begun attending regular schools and their autism labels
had been removed. There were no significant changes in the control
g roup. With these kinds of results possible from a non invasive,
painless, and side effect free treatment, NAET, why would we want
to put a child on a dangerous drug? |

The artificial sugar used in diet soda is aspartame. Aspartame
converts to 11% methanol, or wood alcohol. I recently had a patient
who consumed 6 cans of diet coke a day. That amounts to over 120mg
of methanol which his body quickly turns to formaldehyde, which
is 18 times the 1999 EPA safety limit for formaldehyde in drinking
water. Formaldehyde is what causes a “hangover.”
Research has shown that formaldehyde causes cancer. Additionally,
it interferes with fertility and pregnancy, causing spontaneous
abortion and birth defects. As a potent neurotoxin it causes irritability,
restlessness, insomnia, poor memory, vertigo, seizures, and addiction.
Most heavy diet pop drinkers notice remarkable improvement within
two or three weeks of switching to a healthier beverage, although
some go through a withdrawal. A decade of research also demonstrates
that diet soda doesn’t help weight loss, but actually promotes
weight gain… so what’s the point?

I just found this information that was released last August,
where “the Israeli Health Ministry strongly recommended
that consumption of soy foods be limited for young children and
adults and that soy formula be avoided altogether by infants.”
A 13 member committee of nutritionists, oncologists, pediatricians,
and other specialists spent more than a year examining the evidence
before arriving at their recommendations.
Although the British Dietetic Association and the United Kingdom’s
Chief Medical Officer, as well as the New Zealand Health Ministry
have issued warnings regarding the side effects of soy, no country
has come close to telling its citizens that the possible benefits
of soy are far outweighed by proven risks. Remember, you heard
about the dangers of soy here first. Don’t keep this news
to yourself.

Do you want to reduce your risk to a heart attack? Improve your
circulation. Heart muscles quit when they are deprived of life giving
circulation by restricted blood vessels and clots. Do you want to
reduce your risk to cancer? Improve your circulation. One of the
interesting things about cancers is that they prefer an oxygen free
environment, and even produce their energy in the absence of oxygen,
and it’s the circulation that brings the oxygen. Do you want
to reduce the risks to the most debilitating effects of blood sugar
disease, from insulin resistance (hypoglycemia) to diabetes? Improve
your circulation. The most debilitating effects of blood sugar disease,
both early and late stage, come about because of reduced circulation.
Do you want to reduce the risk of dementia? Improve your circulation.
I think you’re getting the idea.
Probably the most important thing you can do to
improve your circulation is an intelligently designed and guided
exercise program. Additionally, there are substances like DMG and
enzyme therapy which I will cover in future newsletters. For this
article I’d like to share some information with you about
an herbal product that eastern healers have recommended for centuries,
.
This is a time when our environment has been badly
abused and toxic. It is a time of increased senility among our ever
increasing elderly population, and a time of a frightening epidemic
called Alzheimer’s dementia. Anything that helps, is inexpensive,
and that is practically free of side effects is worth knowing about.
The major uses of Ginkgo have been thoroughly subjected to scientific
scrutiny. It has been shown in numerous studies to restore health
in the following areas:
Cerebro-vascular insufficiency is a term that describes decreased
blood flow to the brain, and a major cause of senility. It can
adversely affect memory (especially short term memory), concentration,
intellectual ability, vision, equilibrium, and balance. Cerebro-vascular
insufficiency may lead to headaches, depression, and mental
confusion so common in the elderly. Ginkgo is one of the few
substances that has been shown to markedly improve cerebro-vascular
insufficiency.
Ginkgo protects against brain weakness by improving circulation,
and protects against free radical damage (aging). Senility has
become much more prevalent in the USA undoubtedly due to changes
in lifestyle and environment, and in this area medicine has
provided few answers. Ginkgo’s ability to positively affect
short term memory has no competitors. For many, it is all that
stands between their being able to remember what hey ate for
breakfast or not.
Ginkgo has been shown to alleviate tinnitus, the medical term
for ringing in the ears, and in many cases where all else has
failed. It has also been shown to help disturbed balance, dizziness
(vertigo), and sudden hearing loss. All of these conditions
can be attributed to restricted circulation as well as free
radical damage.
The retina of the eye is composed of very delicate tissue which
is prone to free radical damage, hemorrhage (as in senile macular
degeneration, a major problem in the elderly), and restricted
circulation due to stress. One of the most frightening challenges
of old age is loss of sight, and Ginkgo can reduce that risk.
Peripheral vascular disease is a condition of poor circulation
in the extremities, particularly the legs. It can make walking
difficult and hinders an individual’s ability to exercise
properly. Usually this condition is associated with circulatory
problems of the skin, heart, and other organs. Circulation is
critical to health, and most chronic degenerative diseases have
a circulatory component. Ginkgo promotes circulation in both
the head and extremities.
Ginkgo has been shown to guard tissue against environmental
toxins such as pesticides and herbicides that are prevalent
in our foods. Ginkgo also inhibits a substance called Platelet
Activating Factor (PAF). By inhibiting PAF, Ginkgo reduces stress
on the immune system, counteracts toxic shock, and helps reduce
the risk of asthma, which is increasing in our society at an
alarming rate.
Many studies have been performed to determine the nature of any
side effects that Ginkgo may have. The results have been excellent.
It appears that about one half of one percent of the people who
try Ginkgo experience mild stomach upset which subsides when the
herb is discontinued.
Although herbalists and healers have used teas and extracts for
centuries, the research has been performed with standardized products
that are batch consistent. Most of the research has been performed
with conservative dosage levels of between 50mg and 150mg of Ginkgo
daily. Preventics Ginkgo comes in 60mg capsules. The literature
suggests that, unlike many products, a longer clinical trial of
Ginkgo is necessary to see results. I suggest two capsules a day,
in divided dosage when possible, for three months, continuing
this dosage if positive results are obtained. Preventics Ginkgo
is $13.00 for a bottle of 100 capsules, about half the average
retail price of a quality Ginkgo supplement. An adequate trial
would consist of taking two bottles, as previously directed, until
gone. Some patients have noticed greater improvement by increasing
the dosage to two capsules, twice a day, but that is the exception
rather than the rule.
