Well, you would think that the Asthma drugs, Advair, Serevent,
and Foradil were saving the world from the danger and misery of
Asthma if you listen to the TV advertising. Not so says the latest
research. The FDA now wants a stronger warning label for these
drugs because the research now shows that although they reduce
the frequency of Asthma attacks, they increase the risk of severe
Asthma attacks and even death. The study showed that patients
taking the drugs accounted for more deaths than the people taking
the placebos. That means that taking the drugs increases your
chance of a fatal Asthma attack.
Advair had sales of $4.7 billion in 2004. Obviously Advair is
being prescribed for our children because IT’S GOOD BUSINESS.
It reminds me of Dr. Marcia Angell’s book, The
Truth About Drug Companies. Dr. Angell, by the way,
is the former editor of the prestigious New England Journal of
Medicine and a highly respected and established medical insider.
The entire pharmaceutical industry, says Dr. Angell, is “primarily
a marketing machine to sell drugs of dubious benefit.” “Big
pharma,” she says, “is taking us for a ride.”
Drug industry sales are approaching $500 billion a year, half
of which is in North America. Consider this, she says, “The
combined profits for the ten drug companies in the Fortune 500
were more than the profits for all the other 490 businesses put
together.”
NAET eliminates
the underlying allergies that cause Asthma. It’s the only
thing that does, and it’s painless, inexpensive and free
of long term side effects. Who do you know that has a child who
uses an inhaler?

Thanksgiving is upon us, and many of us are carefully watching
our scales as the winter holiday season approaches. By now, we
all know that fat is the result of too much simple sugar intake,
and we have vowed to get through the season without getting “holiday
hips.” Many less informed citizens will resort to using
foods and beverages sweetened with the di-peptide sweetener Aspartame,
and they’ll pay the price in spite of their effort.
Aspartame was going to be the savior of sugar lovers and diabetics.
Some of us warned of its dangerous side effects (a web search
under Aspartame side effects reveals frightening data too lengthy
to elaborate on here), and suggested it would be no better than
simple sugar. We were wrong. It has turned out to be worse. A
review of 26 years of patient data found that people who drink
diet soft drinks are more likely to become overweight. The research,
done at The University of Texas Health Science Center on over
1,100 patients showed that diet soft drink consumption was actually
worse when it comes to producing weight gain than regular sugar
laced soft drinks. Aspartame was supposed to allow us to drink
junk beverages and get away with it. So much for that. Pity the
poor diabetics who have been diligently following the dietitians
advice and have been unable to figure out why, when doing what
they were told, they continued to gain more weight, need more
insulin, need mor e anti-hypertensive meds, need more cardio-vascular
meds, etc., while doing everything “right.”
The research shows that sugar is definitely better than Aspartame,
but remember, sugar is now universally supported as the number
one risk factor for heart attacks in women, and number two for
men. Cheraskin and associates at the University of Alabama found
that just one teaspoon of sugar reduces the number of germs destroyed
by white blood cells by 50% immediately, and normal germ destroying
capability doesn’t return for five hours. Millions of Americans
consume an average of two or more teaspoons of sugar of all kinds,
every hour of the day, and thus keep their immune system constantly
low. Given this information, the equation of lots of holiday sugar
resulting in lots of holiday colds makes sense. It’s worth
noting that an eight ounce glass of orange juice contains about
eight teaspoons of sugar as fructose, which is just as harmful
as sucrose.
The alternative is Stevia, available at most Health Food Stores.
It can be a little tricky to use, but at least it’s natural
with no apparent side effects, even for the diabetic.

| Last week a patient called me with a testimonial and a question.
She said she had been suffering from painful knees, hips and fingers
since she was in her fifties, or about ten years. She was very pleased
how NAET eliminated her troublesome food allergies, especially with
the holidays approaching, but never considered her arthritis a subject
for discussion. In fact she said she didn’t even mention her
anti-inflammatory medication during her NAET consultation because
she didn’t think it was relevant. She said her pain was better,
but that she was not nearly pain free, and was limited in her activities
even on her medication… until the last few weeks. Now, she said,
she was pain free, and wanted to know why I didn’t write a newsletter
article describing the treatment that healed her joints, so here it
is.
Treating the painful joint: Osteoarthritis isn’t the result
of allergy/sensitivity (Rheumatoid arthritis is), but it is a condition
that normally responds well to natural treatment if caught in time.
The symptom, joint pain, is the result of damage to connective tissue,
cartilage and bone. If the disease can be caught before there is
significant boney damage, the connective tissue and cartilaginous
damage can be reversed. Vitamin C is the most important chemical
building block for the repair of connective tissue that is usually
in short supply. I recommend a daily dose of one of Preventics
Vitamin C-1000’s for every 50 lbs of weight to correct
that problem. To repair the damaged cartilage I recommend two Preventics
Glucosamine Sulfate tablets, 500mg each, three times a day for
two bottles (20 days worth). If no positive response is noticed
in that 20 day period it suggests that the cartilage is completely
gone and the joint is bone on bone, and the chances become very
slim that a positive outcome will be reached with natural treatment.
Most osteoarthritis sufferers notice a significant improvement in
the first 20 days and thereafter are able to begin reducing the
Glucosamine Sulfate dose over a period of months until it is no
longer required, or a very low dose is required, to maintain a pain
free state.
Treating the underlying cause: Arthritis can be caused by any kind
of joint trauma (hammer missing nail and hitting joint comes to
mind). Osteoarthritis is a complicated physiological phenomenon
that requires one to look beyond the joint for a cause. As we age
and consume the Standard American Diet (SAD), which is woefully
deficient in both macro and micro minerals, the natural body warehouses
for these minerals become depleted. The body needs mineral for virtually
all bodily functions, and they are much more important than vitamins,
so the body warehouses them. Warehousing minerals is one of the
functions of your bones.
When the body needs minerals it borrows them from bones, and it
borrows them in balance. A little bit of everything is removed.
If only one mineral that the body might need was removed it wouldn’t
be long before the bones would lose their ability to perform their
other functions that are so important to our health like support
and the manufacture of blood cells. The remainder of the un-needed
minerals are unable to get back into the bones unless the same balanced
ratios are met that were present when they were removed. Minerals
are so important, however, that the body stored them, even in imbalanced
ratios, in a secondary tissue. It’s called lining tissue,
and makes up the skin, and the lining of the digestive tract, respiratory
system, vascular system, urogenital system, and joints. There isn’t
a woman over 40 that hasn’t noticed that her skin isn’t
as soft as it was when she was 20. As the skin takes on these additional
mineral deposits it mineralizes, it hardens. These out-of-balance
minerals are preferentially deposited in the lining tissues that
replace themselves the most slowly, which helps conserve these critical
minerals. Blood vessels and joints are among those tissues, and
as they mineralize we have the resulting conditions known as arteriosclerosis
(mineralization of the arteries), and osteoarthritis (mineralization
of the joints). Of course, as the lining tissues are accumulating
minerals the bones are losing them. This is called osteoporosis.
The solution for osteoporosis is supplementing with a balanced
mineral. A calcium and magnesium tablet is not a balanced mineral,
and causes even greater tissue mineralization. Preventics
Bone 350 Plus is the balanced product of choice, and there is
an audio tape that goes out to each new customer with 30 minutes
of explanation about this unique product on side A. The second item
needed is Vitamin D. Preventics is presently formulating a Vitamin
D of adequate dosage to conform to the latest research findings.
Unfortunately, for now it will have to be purchased at a Health
Food Store at retail prices until the Preventics product is ready.
I am happy to discuss dosage, which is an individual thing, during
Preventics Health Help Hotline, Tues., Wed., and Thurs. from 10
to 1, Central Time. The number is 800-888-4866 or 816-753-4866.
When treating both the symptomatic joint(s) as well as the underlying
cause, good to excellent results are usually rapidly forthcoming.
My patient was surprised that I preferred working with her over
the phone. She had previously had spent thousands with her doctor
and pharmacy for inadequate treatment of her symptoms, and without
having the underlying cause addressed at all. She was on other drugs
for her osteoporosis. At the time of the phone call she had been
able to discontinue the anti-inflammatory drugs for her arthritis,
and was eagerly anticipating an improved bone density test that
would suggest that her drugs for osteoporosis could soon be terminated.
I instructed her to be patient, because that usually took at least
18 to 24 months.
