U.S Preventive Medicine is a new company advertised in the Wall Street Journal. They are rounding up physicians throughout the country to focus on preventing disease by prescribing drugs before people get the diseases the drugs are to be taken for. This will make the drug companies a LOT of money, which is what the spin on prevention is all about, after all. Does anyone out there know of a disease that’s due to a drug deficiency???
Drugs, long term, cause side effects. Sometimes it takes decades to discover how bad those side effects are, but sooner or later we find out, often the hard way. For example, the breast cancer rate is definitely down, and medicine is raving about the numbers saying medical science is finally making progress against this horrible disease.
I think this is another case where figures lie and liars figure. Consider that just a few years ago we learned that the 30 year experiment with hormones from pregnant mares’ urine, Premarin, was doing more harm (ex., breast cancer) than good. Now let’s look at the projected figures, and we realize that the improvement in breast cancer death is the result of physicians no longer so cavalierly prescribing a very dangerous drug.
To me it simply says once again, the more drugs we take as a society the sicker we will ultimately become. It’s unavoidable.
