The tide of public awareness is drowning Aspartame (nutrasweet) and its makers. One producer, Chicago’s Merisant, recently went bankrupt and Holland Sweetener, Europe’s largest aspartame producer terminated its operations in 2006.
European Food Safety Authorities include “experts” financially linked to nutrasweet, but the pressure is so great that the changes continue to happen. There is no longer any question that these artificial sweeteners cause cancer. In fact it is fair to think of artificially sweetened soft drinks as formaldehyde cocktails. Oh, and for the record, Searle, the original manufacturer parent holder of Aspartame is a subsidiary of Monsanto.
