Pap Tests – A Funny, Not So Funny, Story…

I got this from the Science section of the March 9th Newsweek. The article referred to unnecessary medical procedures, in this case the Pap test for cervical cancer. The article reads:

“Total hysterectomy removes the uterus and cervix. A Pap test screens for cervical cancer. No cervix, no cancer. Yet a 2004 study found that some 10 million women lacking a cervix were still getting Pap tests.”

At approximately $200 for a Pap test, that’s $2 billion wasted each year, assuming the test is done annually as suggested, that could be saved by using the brains that the good Lord provided… or maybe it’s just about the money. What do you think?
