FDA Examines Food Dyes and Hyperactivity

The FDA has decided to examine the link between food dyes and hyperactivity in children. How can a government agency get so lost in an age where even automobiles have navigation devices to find a destination?

I sometimes wonder if any of the experts at the FDA are familiar with libraries. I first learned of the Feingold Diet in the seventies at the old Clendening library at KU Medical Center. Ben Feingold, M.D., became famous for a diet that eliminated food dyes and salicylates (aspirin like compounds). Results were mixed, suggesting that hyperactivity and other behaviors now categorized Hyperactive/Attention deficit, etc. are caused by more than just salicylate and food dye sensitivity. Nevertheless, many children and adults obtained relief with the diet. Medicine continued to pursue the One Cause/One Cure approach, and because the Feingold Diet didn’t fix everyone it was paid scant attention by the authorities.

My ‘hyperactive’ patients received decent results when applying the diet and we still check for these sensitivities with the NAET protocol and find they are often a culprit.

Ben Feingold can be googled successfully for more information. I wonder if the FDA has figured out how to google?

The United Kingdom National Health Service recently released a report that showed a sharp rise in the number of people with fatal allergies over a fifteen year period. They claim there is no explanation.

If they would pay attention to the increase in genetically modified foods (thanks Monsanto), they would probably come up with some answers.

They noted that prescriptions for epinephrine injectors (EpiPens) increased 700% in 13 years, and hospital admission increased by a quarter. These statistics parallel those of the USA, and awareness of the cascading allergy problem could save the life of a member of your family.

I have suffered from chronic constipation and horrible gas issues since early childhood and have seen many doctors and had many traditional tests regarding these issues. I was once told that I had a spastic colon after which I was advised not to eat popcorn and that was all I was told.

After some personal investigation (thank goodness for the internet) I determined that I had the typical symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) but nothing I did with my diet eased my ongoing discomfort. Intestinal distress had become a way of life for me. After the age of 50, my chronic constipation turned to frequent uncontrollable diarrhea.

Fortunately, two years ago Dr. David was recommended to me by my daughter-in-law.

Dr. David was the first and only doctor who took the time to talk with me first and then examine me. He identified my very distressed upper and lower intestinal track among other weak areas and prescribed a vitamin and probiotic regimen that helped me begin to heal.

He also identified food allergies that contributed to my intestinal distress. Calcium was one of the many minerals/supplements that I could not absorb and was one of the many things, along with dairy products, that resulted in uncontrollable diarrhea. My inability to absorb calcium created potential bone loss issues as I continued to age.

After a few NAET treatments, I was able to overcome many of those allergies which allowed me to begin taking calcium supplements again. Fortunately, my bone scans now reveal a normal bone density for my age.

Although Dr. David’s vitamin and NAET treatments have been invaluable to my quality of life, his greatest gift to me is the time he takes to answer my questions not only when I am in his office but during his “free” call times.

I have never worked with a doctor who takes the time to answer all of my questions in a manner that is clear to me with such grace and understanding. Dr. David has dedicated his life to helping others and is a credit to the medical profession.

In July, 2008, I was 59 years old and two months from my 60th birthday. I started having chest pains. I had such a bad pain one evening that my girlfriend took me to the emergency room. They kept me over-night for observation. My blood tests showed my heart enzymes were okay but I was experiencing a rapid and irregular heart beat that would come and go. The cardiologist told me I had blocked arteries and should go through an arterial catheterization and maybe have a stent put in or bypass surgery. This determination was made without any tests or scans to validate such a diagnosis. Having read books by Dr. Sherry Rogers, I was aware of safer options available to me. I opted for Chelation therapy and told the Cardiologist, who then told me I would be dead in 30 days.

Since then I have had 39 chelation treatments. I also paid to have a CTA scan of my heart which revealed only one occlusion of a branch artery of the LAD. My main arteries were okay. I believe Dr. Doom at the hospital was just trying to scare me into a procedure to make him a few bucks and lessen the quality of my life, just like Dr. Sherry Rogers warned.

Another health concern I’ve had the last 30 plus years is chronic heartburn and acid reflux. I tried to control it with antacids of all kind: Tums, Rolaids, Alka Seltzer, baking soda. When Zantac became an over the counter drug, I was all over it. It turns out that all those antacids did for me was give me leaky gut syndrome. They also ruined my stomach lining. My girlfriend, Elizabeth, had been telling me all along to stop taking antacids, but I didn’t listen. I didn’t know what to do until a friend gave me a brochure about a doctor that treated people with leaky gut and allergies by using a treatment called NAET. Elizabeth and I made an appointment to see Dr. David Beaulieu. That was October, 2008.

At that time, I was still experiencing frequent intermittent chest pains, Angina. Dr. David performed a muscle resistance test (MRT) to determine what foods, chemicals or other things I might be sensitive to. It turns out it was a lot of things. I started NAET treatments right away. After a few months of doing NAET I was still having problems with my digestion and frequent Angina. I was consistently having diarrhea soon after eating meals and Angina after exertion. Dr. David and his nurse, Betsy, were concerned that I was not responding to the NAET treatments like I should. I was given a more extensive MRT by Dr. David and it was determined that I had mercury poisoning in my heart. I needed to get my amalgam fillings removed immediately as they were interfering with my recovery.

I had the fillings removed by March, 2009. When I started NAET treatments again things started getting better. Dr. David has shown Elizabeth and me how to do MRT on ourselves. I’ve discovered that I have a lot of different allergies/sensitivities. I am sensitive to different combinations like certain carbohydrates with proteins, my laptop only when I attach headphones, and certain vitamins and supplements cause a reaction when taken together. I also had a reaction to toothpicks, and paper towels. I can eat corn chips and salsa and beer if I drink only certain types of beer.

My heart symptoms and digestive symptoms have improved tremendously but they still occur occasionally, associated with various allergies/sensitivities. We find the culprit, NAET fixes it, and the heart pattern is better until the next culprit shows up. As it turns out, the heart problem was mostly due to mercury toxicity and allergies. I’m certainly glad I didn’t agree to bypass surgery or any other invasive procedure. I have learned a lot about my body and health thanks to Dr. David. I am now taking the vitamins, enzymes and other supplements I need plus eating a more healthful diet.

I don’t know if I will ever fully recover from my health problems because some of the damage is probably permanent, but I know I have a much better chance doing so this way as opposed to conventional medicine. I’m doing just fine without hardware in my arteries and life threatening drugs in my system.

Dr. David,

I hope you post my story, I have bored all my friends with it so I might as well bore you too!

Thanks for making me well.

My story is for those wondering if the NAET system with Dr. David is for you. I have a family health history of diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, heart disease, emphysema and yearly weight gain. I exercised, took supplements and ate right but the problems started anyway – just like the rest of my family. I took allergy and asthma medication but each year I would have to try a new drug because the old one simply stopped working. Soon I was taking 90 pills a month and carrying an inhaler. The last straw was when I had to stop having a glass of wine with my dinner. After drinking half of the glass my face would turn red, my throat would get scratchy and I would have a headache for the rest of the night.

My friend Karen told me about Dr. David and I made an appointment the next week. The treatments seemed so easy (slight pressure down the spine three times) I didn’t think it could possibly work…but it did! I knew going in that I would need a number of treatments and that the more items I cleared the more sensitive I would become to the remaining allergens…especially my cat! I was much better after the basics and started reducing my medication immediately. I was very tired after the first treatments so I only scheduled appointments when I could go home and take a nap. That was my only side effect and it didn’t happen every time.

Today I am allergy free. I have discontinued my prescriptions but I still go to the pulmonologist for my annual checkups. He tells me to keep up the good work — but he doesn’t know that I have not taken any of my medication for 9 months nor have I used my inhaler in over a year! I have saved at least $80.00 per month on those prescriptions and am not on a downward health spiral.

If you have questions about what I experienced feel free to contact me at (913) 381-3147 I love to talk about myself.

In January of this year (2004), I was off work again for being sick. This was the second time in 2 months. My symptoms were that I had a stuffy head and felt lethargic. I was off work for 3 or 4 days. I had not been off work for sickness for several years. Being a professional in a corporation, meant that I was not given much time to get better. My Doctor gave me antibiotics. I would fell good while I was on the medication and 2 or 3 days after I quit taking the medication I felt bad again and was off work again. This cycle happened again. I knew I had to stop the cycle.

I heard about Dr. David from my massage therapist. I talked to my Doctor and she, too, had heard about Dr. David. I got right in to see Dr. David when I called for an appointment. His method of treatment was one I had never been exposed to. I gave myself the 16 week’s of basis treatment to try this unusual treatment and then I was out of there. I was not willing to give any more time than the 16 week’s.

I felt a little better after the first month. Each month I felt better. At the end of the 16 wk basic treatment, I felt Great! I now recommend Dr. David to as many people as I can.

Through NAET, Dr. David, and Megan, I have renewed health and great expectation for a pain-free and high-energy life. Thank you!

Since 1997, I have faced numerous health issues that began after a trip to Mexico. My intuition told me that I had a parasite but no conventional doctors would listen. Treating symptom after symptom without any success, I dealt with colitis, thyroiditis, endometriosis, a hysterectomy, a range of odd and unusual symptoms and constant pain. After years and years of no relief from conventional medicine, I finally opened my mind and began to look at holistic health methods. Dr. Carrie Hoskins, in helping me with my pain through cranio-sacral therapy, referred me to Dr. David (thanks Carrie).

Through the NMRT [Neuro Muscular Reflex Testing], it became evident that I had allergic responses to numerous items and that yes, I had a response to two parasites – Algeria amoeba, and Amoeba. These parasites were hidden away in my skin, intestines and brain. To have this confirmed by someone other than myself (as my intuition had been telling me for years) was an amazing relief. I felt that finally I would be able to get the help that I had been asking for and finding no assistance with through conventional medical doctors.

From the very first appointment, I could feel the energy move in my body and I knew that I was on to something powerful. Week to week my pain lessened and my energy increased. Clearly, the NAET method is unlike conventional medicine and it is important we begin to open our eyes and minds to holistic, alternative, and complementary modalities. Too many people are suffering needlessly from disturbing health problems and resources do exist to provide the much needed help. Dr. David and Megan and the NAET method are a tremendous resource for obtaining optimum health. I encourage anyone struggling with allergies, asthma, or other perplexing health issues to consider the NAET method. It has been life changing for me!

My very best regards,

My Journey to Wellness
By Rachel Francis

I am 32 years old and was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome 18 years ago and Fibromyalgia 10 years ago. I was diagnosed my freshman year in high school after nine months of going from doctor to doctor. Something was wrong with me. I got the flu and it never went away. I was sleeping 22 out of 24 hours a day, tired the 2 hours I was awake and lost 13 pounds in 2 weeks. I was placed on homebound schooling for 10 weeks. The doctor convinced my parents that I just needed rest. My parents didn’t take that for an answer and continued to search. I tried everything my parents or I read about: royal jelly, acupuncture, massage therapy, pain medication, long courses of antibiotics, etc.

In 1996 my parents moved to Washington, DC. I found a doctor who kept up to date with the latest research from NIH. He put me on beta blockers, anti-depressants, and other meds. None of them worked. In 1997 I had a sleep study performed that showed a sleep disorder. I was put on different sleep medications. My junior year of college I had a really bad run in which I missed several weeks of class. I was passing out, losing my way on campus and unable to find my way back to my dorm, etc. I was truly blessed to be at William Jewell College (WJC) with a supportive faculty and staff who worked with me so I didn’t have to drop out. My parents were unable to afford to fly in to town. WJC flew my parents in town to be with me after I was told by the doctor that he thought I might have a brain tumor. Thankfully that wasn’t the case.

The search continued as to what was wrong this time. It turned out to be a reaction to a medication that I was on. I was determined to finish college and graduate school despite being told by those around me that I would never make it due to my illness. I’m a stubborn person and set out to prove them wrong. I have always struggled with my symptoms, some times more than others. I was determined I wasn’t going to let my symptoms rule my life. Which wasn’t always the best choice as some decisions would send me to bed for days.

After graduate school and working for two and a half years I felt God calling me to go to Moscow, Russia. My mother freaked out. The thought of me being half way around the world without my doctor whom we all trusted was more than she could handle. My parents and I met with my doctor who agreed to work with me via internet and phone in monitoring my symptoms. My doctor had learned over the years that I knew my body well. I would often walk in his office and tell him what was wrong before he examined me. More times than not I was right. He sent me over with several medications including antibiotics that he thought I might need. My two years in Russia wound up being a tremendous blessing, not only for the experience but for the lack of stress and therefore fewer symptoms. Life in Russia is so much simpler than here in the US. This helped my symptoms greatly. I found a student who was a massage therapist who worked with me on a regular basis. I slept when I needed and was able to adjust my daily responsibilities based on my symptoms. My symptoms diminished greatly as my stress diminished. The only exception to this was my migraines. My body is very sensitive to the barometric pressure. It snowed so often in the winter, which seemed to trigger my migraines.

I got married a year and half ago, gained weight and my symptoms got worse. I was having more bad days then good ones. The pain and fatigue were unbearable at times. Massage therapy and muscle relaxers weren’t doing the trick anymore. I was really frustrated because I wanted children and the thought of having children with my symptoms really scared me.

I did some searching online and found the FCI support group. I hesitated about going because my experience with Fibromyalgia/CFS support groups in the past weren’t positive. At my first FCI support group I heard for the first time that I could heal from Fibromyalgia/CFS. How wonderful that would be! I attended a few support groups and soaked in what everyone was saying, the treatments they tried, what was helpful, etc. In December after an FCI support group meeting, Phyllis Woolard strongly recommended that I go see Dr. David Beaulieu, Dr. David as he is known to his patients, who practices NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques). Phyllis explained NAET (www.naet.com) to me and I have to admit I was skeptical.

I thought about going for over a month. I hesitated because it wasn’t covered by my insurance. I then remembered something I had heard at a support group meeting, “you can’t wait for your insurance to get you well.” I talked with my husband and we decided that we could afford a treatment a week but I still had questions. How did this really work, what about the yeast component, etc. I remembered that Phyllis told me Dr. David took calls free of charge on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. I looked up the number on his website (www.askdoctordavid.com, 816-753-4866) and called. Dr. David took time to answer all of my questions. I made an appointment for the next week. I was tested for the 18 basics and was sensitive to 14 of them.

After about a month of going once a week I started feeling better. I have now been seeing Dr. David since January 2008 and I feel so much better. My pain is gone, my energy is increasing and I haven’t had a migraine since March 2008. The last week of May, I actually woke up with no pain. It took me a moment to realize this as I stood in the shower. I didn’t remember what this felt like! The zero pain didn’t last all day but I was thankful for while it lasted. I see the change and so does my husband. After starting to feel better, I started going off my prescription medication. I am still in this process as I’m doing it very slowly but it’s working. I’m finding that my body doesn’t need all the medication that was prescribed.

Dr. David has truly helped me. I have to admit, I didn’t believe the NAET treatments would work at first. In fact, I didn’t truly believe they were working until I was treated for B Complex. Before seeing Dr. David I had a rash on the corners of my mouth that wouldn’t go away despite multiple visits to the dermatologist and multiple courses of Nystatin, to supposedly treat a yeast infection. I mentioned this to Dr. David my first visit, who told me that a reaction to B Complex can cause a rash as well. As soon as I cleared B Complex, the rash disappeared and hasn’t returned.

My only regret through my NAET experience is that waited a month to call Dr. David after Phyllis recommended him. I am not completely well but I am well on my way!

It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work, and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey.

I have been involved with the implementation of a new nutritional approach at the office for the last 8 or 9 months. We call it Neuro-muscular Response Testing, NMRT or MRT for short. It’s a form of Applied Kinesiology, muscle testing, but was taken to a new level by a couple of doctors down in Florida.

NMRT reduces the need for so much lab work, which save considerable monies, and allows a more specific approach than ever before possible. I have printed a full description of NMRT on the website and encourage you to look at it. It has been the answer for many of my more non-responsive patients, and it’s time to let you all know that the nutritional area of the practice has just taken a giant step forward.

If you are not completely satisfied with your present state of health, you should consider an NMRT exam to see if it may produce some answers.

I have just returned from a seminar in Chicago that takes NAET and Muscle Response Testing (MRT) to a new level. In fact, I’d consider this new information a quantum leap forward.

Dr. Freddie Ulan’s innovations using MRT to simplify the NAET evaluation, and add a quick, inexpensive, and non-invasive evaluation — for bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic problems in addition to environmental chemical toxicity and heavy metal poisoning — take MRT to an exciting new level.

Additionally, there have always been some challenging patients who didn’t test well and produced unpredictable results, and a few who simply responded the opposite of what was considered normal. Both of these problems now appear to be due to a dis-regulation between the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems, and a solution has been discovered. These shortcomings of MRT and NAET have puzzled me for a long time, and it’s exciting to finally come up with some answers that will lead to more consistent positive outcomes.

This new technique also explains why some people don’t respond to certain therapies. Homeopathic remedies, for example, are well known to produce poor results in a substantial group of patients. This new technique, Neuro Muscular Reflex Testing or NMRT, corrects that problem as well. If you have had any of these problems, it would be wise to be re-evaluated at your earliest convenience.
