Just a few decades ago, scientists discovered an intestinal condition in alcohol abusers that resulted in a porous intestinal lining. They named the condition Leaky Gut Syndrome, or just Leaky Gut for short. This porous intestinal lining, or Leaky Gut, allows food molecules, that would normally be too large, to pass through the intestinal lining.

Once these abnormally large molecules get through, they trigger a natural defense reaction whereby the body builds antibodies to identify the larger molecule as an invader, and attack it. The result of this antigen/antibody reaction is what we call an allergy/sensitivity, and any tissue in the body can express an allergy/sensitivity.

Once this Leaky Gut Syndrome begins, a cascade of events occurs that results in increasingly more allergy/sensitivities. The body becomes increasingly sensitive to not only food chemicals, but to environmental chemicals and airborne irritants such as pollen, dust, and mold. Even though specific nutritional and lifestyle modifying actions can be instituted to heal the Leaky Gut itself, the body still continues to make the antibodies it built in its initial response. Therefore, the body remains sensitive to many dietary, environmental, and airborne chemicals that were not a problem before the Leaky Gut began.

Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they’re yours.
… … … …
R. Bach – Illusions

In addition to alcohol abuse, many prescription and non-prescription drugs initiate Leaky Gut. Among the most common are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like aspirin and ibuprofen, antibiotics, steroids, birth control pills, and vaccinations. Vaccinations can be a problem because many of them are preserved in a mercury solution. Mercury is one of the most toxic chemicals on the planet, and a child’s body can handle just so much before it results in a toxic body burden. The mercury in vaccinations has been implicated by some of the current research as a primary contributor to disorders like ADD/ADHD and Autism. Another initiator of Leaky Gut is silver dental fillings/amalgams that are composed of about 50% mercury. In many people, these amalgams release mercury slowly over the years and result in a chronic poisoning.

It has been theorized that all of the above initiators of Leaky Gut produce the porous gut condition by creating an imbalance between the naturally occurring yeast and bacterial residents (flora) of the intestines. This imbalance in the gut flora is termed dysbiosis, and it is dysbiosis that is the actual cause of the porous gut. In dysbiosis, yeast proliferate, and often migrate from the intestines to the urogenital area, so those who have suffered with urogenital yeast infections are suspect for Leaky Gut Syndrome.

Leaky Gut Syndrome is usually accompanied by sugar craving. Yeast needs sugars, simple carbohydrates, for its food source. When the body is in dysbiosis, the yeast secretes chemical messengers into the bloodstream that make the individual crave sweets.

It is important to take steps to help heal the damaged intestinal lining. Abstaining from simple sugars in the diet and supplementing the bacterial populations that have been thrown into negative balance does this. Its called probiotic therapy, and consists of taking bacterial agents by mouth in pHI or powder form. Probiotics should always be taken during and after antibiotic therapy, vaccinations, etc., to avoid dysbiosis and the Leaky Cut Syndrome.

Additionally, it is important to reverse the antibody patterns that have been established as a result of the Leaky Gut. This is the role of Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET). Devi Nambudripad, R.N., D.C., L.Ac., Ph.D., M.D., postulated over a dozen years ago that most allergy/sensitivity started in the gut with food allergy/sensitivity and then cascaded into airborne and environmental allergy sensitivities. As more time passes, this theory is proving to be correct in most cases.

NAET is remarkably effective. According to some European research, NAET treatment results in marked improvement or cure in 80% to 85% of all cases studied, and that is consistent with the results we see in our office. The results seem even more amazing when one considers that the testing and treatment is totally painless and non-invasive.

A long time feeding study commissioned by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety, managed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Health and Youth, confirms genetically modified (GM) corn seriously affects reproductive health in mice. The GM corn was a product of the US-based Monsanto Corp. Additionally, significant litter size and pup weight decreases were found in the third and fourth litters in these GM fed mice, compared to the control group.

This is not the first demonstration of the dangers of GM foods, but it was the controlled nature of the study that makes the negative results impossible to ignore by world health authorities.

Consumer advocates are calling for a ban on all GM foods and GM crops. About 75% of the foods we purchase in American super markets are genetically modified. The most dangerous GM food will be sugar from the GM sugar beet to be introduced before 2009.

Monsanto has launched us into a genetic disaster scenario. European nations have been rejecting GM foods since their inception in spite of intense lobbying by Monsanto. It’s time we did the same.

I’ve been warning you about this threat for years. It’s not nice to mess with Mother Nature and we are creating a Nation of children with allergy/sensitivity and ill health.

All three articles cited the health risks and environmental risks related to wireless technology. Some of the latest emerging science suggests that the problem with cell phones does not come from voltage, but from information piggybacking on the radio frequencies emitted and received from antenna to cell phone.

I will be excerpting from a recent article in the Townsend Letter for Doctors entitled The WIFI Blues, in Acres USA (the finest eco-agricultural newspaper in the USA) entitled Nuking the Birds and the Bees, and in Total Health magazine entitled The Electro-pollution Solution. All three hit the street at about the same time and were impossible to ignore. All three articles cited the health risks and environmental risks related to this technology.

There is only one remaining laboratory researching this area in the USA, and that’s at the University of Washington in Seattle. Unfortunately, no one in the USA is willing to lay down money to clarify the science behind WiFi (wireless broadband internet). These days we have to depend on the Europeans, who have continued to research this area, and continue to warn of the associated risks. If WiFi isn’t as safe as the WiFi companies tell us, we need to take precautions, because entire cities are considering going WiFi, with Philadelphia leading the charge. That could be very good for the wireless industry, and perhaps very bad for the citizenry. I have already started seeing patients who have become allergic/sensitive to their cell phones and cell phone towers, so it’s not as innocent a technology as the WiFi companies are saying it is. I have never considered the physiological burden created by radio frequency radiation and microwave from familiar sources like TV broadcast signals, radar, and the ubiquitous cell phone a problem, but the ongoing science around this technology is now creating some genuine concern.

Most new technologies seem harmless until they have been entrenched in our way of life. Then the goblins seem to come out. While the dangers of any new technology begin showing up in the long term research, our government, motivated by the lobbying dollars from the new technology innovators, continually reassures us that we’re safe, and “all is well.” However, as most of us have figured out, the government looks out for those it belongs too, and that’s not you and I, but big business. Knowing we can’t believe our government, who or what do we believe?

Unfortunately, a lot of the research is biased, and the bias works both ways. You tend to get what you pay for, and the WiFi companies are careful to promote the positive outcomes of the research that they fund, while the naysayer scientists and consumer groups promote the negative outcomes that they fund… and it can all get very confusing.

Probably what convinced me to look at WiFi with a more critical eye was a resolution passed by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) in August of 2004. Some research was done using fire stations as a location for cell phone antennas. Based on the evidence reviewed in the scientific literature and the following wide range of effects experienced by the firefighters: slowed reaction times, lack of focus, lack of impulse control, severe headaches, anesthesia-like sleep, sleep deprivation, depression, tremors, and vertigo, it was considered an unacceptable risk. Three things are worth noting about the substance of the resolution and the IAFF’s official position. First, the firefighters were focused on their ability to do their job. Second, firefighters were involuntarily exposed to a health risk. Third, the firefighters opposed the cell antennas until they are proven safe.

Some of the latest emerging science suggests that the problem with cell phones does not come from voltage, but from information piggybacking on the radio frequencies emitted and received from antenna to cell phone. It is called an information carrying radio wave (ICRW). This ICRW is a frequency that has never before existed. Our bodies, being unfamiliar with it seem to perceive it as an invader. Microtubules on our cell membranes sense frequencies, and when they perceive an unknown frequency they respond accordingly and go into a protective mode. In that mode, all physiological activity may be compromised sufficiently to produce long term health challenges, some simple and some severe. Since more than 37 million locations are presently connected to wireless internet, it has become impossible to escape continuous and unrelenting exposure to ICRWs.

We now have a world wide phenomenon with 3 billion cell phone users with cell phones that are on all the time. They constantly send and receive these ICRWs. The next question could be the scariest. What could be the greatest cause for alarm, beside personal health problems such as those reported by the IAFF?

Honey bees are in a frightening state of decline all around the world. Honey bees are responsible for the pollination of crops that are essential to our continued existence on this planet. Bee keepers have noticed that hives are not littered with the bodies of dead bees, so the problem isn’t a hive related epidemic. The bees leave and then don’t return. Scientists the world over are pursuing a solution to this problem with a fervor due to the catastrophic possibilities if a solution isn’t found. It is called “colony collapse disorder” (CCD).

One scientific theory that has emerged regarding CCD, is that the bees simply can’t find their way home. Bees navigate on electromagnetic fields, and the theory suggests that when you disrupt intercellular communication, you take away the ability of the bee to sense these fields. There is more than adequate science demonstrating that ICRWs disrupt intercellular communications. Perhaps it’s a coincidence, but this CCD has occurred in the last two years when we have experienced the exponential increase in ICRWs. Let’s hope this theory is wrong even though the knot in my gut is telling me that it’s not.

I have just returned from a seminar in Chicago that takes NAET and Muscle Response Testing (MRT) to a new level. In fact, I’d consider this new information a quantum leap forward.

Dr. Freddie Ulan’s innovations using MRT to simplify the NAET evaluation, and add a quick, inexpensive, and non-invasive evaluation — for bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic problems in addition to environmental chemical toxicity and heavy metal poisoning — take MRT to an exciting new level.

Additionally, there have always been some challenging patients who didn’t test well and produced unpredictable results, and a few who simply responded the opposite of what was considered normal. Both of these problems now appear to be due to a dis-regulation between the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems, and a solution has been discovered. These shortcomings of MRT and NAET have puzzled me for a long time, and it’s exciting to finally come up with some answers that will lead to more consistent positive outcomes.

This new technique also explains why some people don’t respond to certain therapies. Homeopathic remedies, for example, are well known to produce poor results in a substantial group of patients. This new technique, Neuro Muscular Reflex Testing or NMRT, corrects that problem as well. If you have had any of these problems, it would be wise to be re-evaluated at your earliest convenience.

It sometimes takes decades to assess the drugs that are given to so many so cavalierly. Recently the side effects of the ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder) drugs were studied, and the results were something less than positive, especially since the majority of these drugs are prescribed for children.

Scientists at the Center for Disease Control determined that these stimulant drugs result in over 3100 ER visits a year. Side effects that include potential cardiac problems like chest pain, stroke, high blood pressure, and rapid heart rate have caused some doctors to suggest the drugs be sold only with the most serious warning on the package inserts of Ritilin, Concerta, and Adderall. Apparently around 3.3 million, that’s 3,3000,000, citizens under the age of 19 take these medications.

NAET Allergy Treatment and dietary lifestyle changes are a better way to control most cases of ADHD.

The rare disease that isn’t, Celiac Disease, Gluten Enteropathy or Autoimmune Grain Allergy.

What Causes Celiac Disease?

Celiac Disease is unique. Most autoimmune diseases have multiple inciting agents, or science has yet to discover the inciting agent/agents. The inciting agent in Celiac Disease is gluten, which is prevalent in most grains. The disease is passed on genetically, so to have the disease you must carry the gene in your genetic makeup, and usually there is some family history of food allergy.

Carrying the gene doesn’t always guarantee the disease, and some genetic carriers may go their entire lives without ever suffering the symptoms. Additionally, a person can have a normally functioning digestive tract for many years or many decades before an adverse event, or trigger, sets off the disease. The trigger can be an emotional event, exposure to an environmental irritant/pollutant, infection, or medication.

How Celiac Disease Affects Us (the masquerade)

Celiac disease is a disease of malabsorption, and, therefore, affects every aspect of physiology. Proper digestion and absorption is necessary for every organ system to receive the essential chemicals (fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals) needed to function optimally. Because it is a disease that affects multiple systems, it presents a complicated symptomatic picture that often defies early diagnosis. Although one would expect the primary presenting symptoms to be diarrhea and/or constipation, weight loss and/or weight gain, foul smelling stools and abdominal pain, this typical expected pattern is present only about 20% of the time. The diagnostic pattern can be one of fatigue, fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, ADD & ADHD, and even diabetes. Attitude change is usually a prime component as more “happy hormone” production takes place in the gut than in the brain. As a result, depression & anxiety is almost always present in Celiac disease.

How Often Does Celiac Disease Occur?

The official prevalence of Celiac disease now stands at 1 in 133. Although it affects less than 1% of the population, Celiac disease is thought to account for as much as 35% of all chronic disease cases. The average time to diagnosis is 8 to 10 years, and by the time the diagnosis is made, there is usually severe irreversible damage to the villous architecture of the intestines.

What You Can Do

Most patients diagnose themselves over a period of time, and then bring the diagnosis to the doctor. Unfortunately, the diagnosis is determined by taking a biopsy (usually multiple biopsies) of the intestinal tract, and if an area of intestinal wall destruction is not seen, Celiac disease will not be diagnosed. By the time a firm diagnosis is usually made, the average patient has very little normal intestinal function left, and the damage is mostly irreversible.

Eliminating grain from the diet for a few weeks to a few months can provide excellent information. If the symptom pattern, no matter how varied, abates when grain is eliminated and returns when grain is reintroduced, it is wise to assume that in time the disease/symptom pattern will progress to a possible Celiac diagnosis and the irreversible damage that goes with it. If the symptoms that you or your loved ones seem to respond to nothing that would be considered “standard and customary” in the way of treatment, running a trial of grain elimination can be insightful.

My point of view

I think we Americans over consume grains. We have been encouraged to do so by our governmental agencies that have a long history of being wrong. One of the most popular European diet books reads true to its title, Life Without Bread, by Allan and Lutz.

Here in America, the Atkins Diet has been the most popular diet book with over 14 million purchased, and against extraordinary opposition from the AMA. Lately, this approach has increased in popularity because it produces such remarkable results in people who want to feel better and lose weight.

A few books that I consider spin offs of Atkins are The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, The South Beach Diet and The Zone Diet. All suggest a virtual elimination of simple carbohydrates in the initial stages, and that’s when dieters experience the most relief from symptoms.

Could the success of these diets be in part due to their producing relief for the sufferer of Celiac symptoms? I think the answer is “Yes.” Therefore, if you are having an unusual array of undiagnosable symptoms, whether your bowel movements are involved or not, wouldn’t it be wise to do a grain elimination diet for a month and watch for symptom improvement?

NAET and Celiac Disease

I don’t see much Celiac disease in the practice, and by the time a patient would present with that diagnosis the damage would already be, to a large degree, irreversible. However, I believe that we catch a great many Celiacs, especially children, pre-diagnosis.

Grain is a major allergen, and NAET testing demonstrates a positive response in over 80% of the patients that come to my office. In almost all cases, the results are outstanding if we can catch the disease before too much permanent damage has occurred. To the best of my knowledge, NAET allergy treatment is the only therapy available that is capable of reversing an auto-immune disease, demonstrating that genetic outcomes can be modified. If gluten sensitivity is suspected, I feel the logical course of action is a home clinical elimination trial followed by NAET therapy.
